| Mercworx knives are created one knife maker who does all of the grinding, sculpting, sanding, fitting, fabrication and final finishing by hand. They are designed as fighting knives for professionals in the field. Mercworx knives are better made and more highly finished than the work of many custom knife makers in the business. Mercworx larger knives are formed of quarter inch thick steel called 154cm, and you can also choose to upgrade to the S30V steel. 154cm steel has the reputation for being the ultimate steel for hard used blades. Due to the thickness of the blades, even the smallest of the knives will produce a large wound. They chose to fine-sand their blades over bead blasting to make the knives easier to clean, and less susceptible to the elements.
They are quite impressive due to the manufacturers overall design and meticulous detail. The Mercworx knives are outstanding because of the design, balance and feel. All the large Mercworx knives feature Mercworx's unique upswept thumb ramp on the top of the knives. This way the blade will not cut your palm when you push against an object. On the bottom of the knives are extended protrusions of the blade that will keep your hand from sliding foreword. The handle features standard black micarta wood which is bonded to the handle, and are made to handle with sub-zero temperatures. The big surface area of the blade makes for much better chopping and prying due to the added weight and strength.
They have a smooth handle because it provides firm retention and also is a comfortable tool in your grip. Rather than going with one of those qualities, Mercworx spent quite a bit of engineering a handle that serves both purposes. The knives feature a thumb stop, to make the knives more usable. The user can hold the Mercworx in the extended saber grip by pushing down on the radius thumb stop to align the blade with his forearm. This way the knife will seem to be an extension of your forearm. The flared tip on the knives blades are designed such to produce damage when it penetrates. An hollow point bullet works the same way.
